A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6th. It has been confirmed that Ghanaian star player Christian Atsu was on the ninth floor of a 15-story building in Hatay.
It has also been confirmed that Atsu was caught in the rubble with his Hatayspor teammates and technical director.
According to multiple reports from Turkey, the Ghanaian international player was reportedly retrieved from the collapsed building after 26 hours on Tuesday, February 6, the athlete was rescued alive with very minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

However, Hatayspor’s team doctor, Kahveci, stated on Wednesday, February 8th, that both the player and sporting director, Taner Savut, have yet to be located.
“When we received the news that “he was brought to Dortyol Hospital,” we especially went and looked, but he was not there,” says Kahveci.

According to Atsu’s agent, Nana Sechere on Wednesday, 8th February stated that Following yesterday’s statement from the club that, Christian had been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts.
