Unknown gunmen opened fire on residents in Gor, a hamlet in the Upper West Region’s Wa East District, with one feared dead and injuring several others.
According to reports, residents arrested an unknown armed man in the neighborhood.
However, other armed men appeared from the bushes and opened fire on the gathered residents.
The incident in question is said to have happened on April 2nd.
The victims were all brought to Wa Regional Hospital, where the survivors are recovering.
Godfred Seidu Jasaw, Member of Parliament for Wa East Constituency, verified the incident but said the information is “sketchy.”

According to the Assembly member he spoke with, Mr. Seidu Jasaw indicated that relative calm has returned to the area.
He stated that the incident has been submitted to the Upper West Regional Police Command, which is now in charge of the investigation.
A manhunt has been initiated to apprehend the gunmen.
“The police in Wa municipality were alerted and arrived on the scene, but the activities had already occurred and the assailants had fled.”
“At the moment, I believe the case has been reported to the regional police CID.”
There are suspicions that the crime is related to ongoing chieftaincy and land disputes.
The MP also stated that some residents believe the assailants are galamseyers attempting to reclaim control of the region.
